ROUND 3 – Vs

The 3rd’s headed over to Yarraville Club for our first game of the season. We inspected the pitch and based on the inspection and weather we decided to bowl first (Evo’s advise).

We opened up with Ritesh and myself and kept the first 8 overs pretty tight before Ritesh struck up the first wicket, bowling the opener when he tried to leave it!!

Chad come on first change and picked up a wicket with his first ball!! He bowled very well leading in to drinks. Yarraville’s 3rd & 4th batsmen batted well scoring a 55 run partnership. I decided to bring Jesse Gila into the game with his right arm darts and he bowled on point and took 4/25!!

We threw to bowl around and kept the run rate at a level I was happy with. Steve Watts in his first game back after 7 years bowled well picking up a wicket with a great catch from Chad.

Josh came on late and bowled brilliantly, 3 overs – 4 runs. Lukey Carland also bowled well at the close and took 2/13.

We kept Yarraville Club to 149 which we thought was very achievable. This came from some tight bowling and great fielding with no dropped catches along with strong leadership from a few players and some great talk in the field.

After a fantastic array of afternoon tea served by Yarraville as always, we got stuck into it and opened up with Rhys and “Maxy”. Rhys looked solid as always, but unfortunately we lost “Maxy” early. Chad came to through crease after a breakout season last summer and took the bowlers on to make a fantastic 50. We lost Rhys after another solid innings and partnership with Chad, that bought to the crease the old war horse Evo… Evo started off slow, treating his wicket like a pot of Carlton Draught.

Our run rate slowed, but with Evo’s experience he waited for the bad balls and got us over the line with the winnings runs and also his 50 with 2 overs to spare.

It was great to start the season off with a win against a very good opposition. It takes us into our next game against Sunshine on their turf with some confidence and strut.

Back to the nets this week for some more training and we will be ready to go with the massive inclusion of Stuart Gault.
