FIRST XI MATCH REPORT
Round 6 – Laverton
After having the first week of this match postponed by Stormageddon, we headed to our away fixture versus Laverton with a shortened format of the game.
Having loss the toss and being sent in to bat, I wasn’t too disappointed. Knowing that we have played well in the past setting and defending totals, I felt that we could set the tone of the match.
Unfortunately, the inability of our top order to build any meaningful partnerships, due to the constant loss of wickets, put us in a fairly ominous position at the drinks break. 5 down. 45 on the board. The job ahead of us.
A small fightback was mounted by Ethan McShanag and Liam Hutchison, who battled through and put on a nice little stand of 28 for the 6th wicket, but once Ethan went for 21, “Hutchy” fell in the same over.
A bit of luck and some clever batting by Jak Donnison, and we managed to push the total out to 98. Well under par. But ours in the bank.
Needing early wickets, the breakthrough didnt come until the home side had glided to 27, when Jesse Ravanello picked up the first wicket of the innings.
From a bowling side of things, the boys all bowled tight lines and restricted any free flowing shots, however, wickets was the order and we failed to pick up the second one until the match well in Laverton’s favour.
Passing the total 5 wickets down and with 12 overs still to bowl, the boys dug deep and stuck to their task. Picking up a couple more crucial wickets and not letting the game blow out, as it may have in previous years.
The bowling stand outs of the day were Jesse Ravanello, once again, who picked up figures of 4/42, and Jak Donnison, with his biggest First XI haul of 3/23.
With Airport West coming off their first win of the season, the boys will need a much stronger performance if we are to head into the Christmas break at evens.
Don’t forget the KPCC Christmas Party is on following the match, with good food, cold drinks, good company and plenty for the kids too. A jumping castle and maybe even a visit from the Big Guy in Red himself. If you feel like watching the future of this club take shape, come along a little earlier and see the guys in action.
SECOND XI MATCH REPORT
Round 6 – Laverton
We had laverton at home which is always a tough game.
With new recruit Cade Thomson on board, surely to stregthen the top 6.
We lost the toss and Laverton decided to first.
Game plan keep them to 120-130, with a bit of rain during the week the outfield looked lush but we knew it would play well.
Pete and Dylan opened the bowling as per usual. Both bowled tight and the batters got on top of Pete early. The ball offering no swing for Pete to work with.
Dylan from the other end started off nice and tight and definitely settled in. Pete bowled 5 overs and went for 20. Ab was bought on the 11th over and managed to tie it up a little with some very crafty bowling. Ab taking 1 / 56 off 12.
Dylan at the other end was still strolling in hitting the pitch hard and causing some uncertainty on a track that played better than it looked.
Laverton consolidated and managed to look to start pushing the run rate, enter Dylan. Dylan bowled 20 overs on the trot taking wickets when needed. He ended up with figures of 4/50 off 20 straight, with support from Morgs who took 1/31 off 3 and AB doing what he does.
Laverton finished on 7/161 probably 30 more than what we wanted to keep them too.
Seeing first hand that creating a stable start and then having some wickets left in the shed to launch we went out with the game plan.
Rhys and Stan went in to open. Rhys looked to move the score along rotating the strike, unfortunately Stan was out for 1, Cade came in at 3 with looking to push the score along, hitting a very quick fire 11 sending his second ball to the boundary then getting bowled.
GB came in and Rhys fell very quickly before we knew it we were 3/25.
GB added 7 before skying one, seeing the score 4/26.
AB and teamed up trying to get something moving and get to drinks. We managed to get through to drinks. AB fell playing a sweep shot and Dylan came in. Dylan made a quick fire 12 and Kye coming in and going out we were on the back foot with the score 7/77 I teamed up with Pete. Me and Pete tried everything we could to try and attack the score Pete hitting a big six too!!!
We managed to get the score 107 before pete went out falling for 16.
I went a few overs after making 40.
Nath and Morgs were the last 2 in.
Nathan made 4 before going out seeing us all bowled out for 116.
Unfortunately we fell short.
Next week we travel to play airport west before the xmas break.
Hoping to finish of the year with a win!!
