FIRST XI MATCH REPORT
ROUND 2 – Vs Druids
A new season about to get underway, we were tasked with the tough assignment of Druids away to kick off our campaign (after the postponement of our Round 1 fixture).
Going into the game, we knew Druids would be a strong side, having been on the receiving end of a hefty loss against them last season. Knowing the key to their game was consistent bowling and strong batting depth, we headed down to Shorten Reserve ready for the fight.
With the inclusions of Hywel Jones, Andy Davies and Rohan Parag into our top 5, I wasn’t too disappointed when Druids won the toss and elected to Bowl. Giving us first crack at getting runs on the board, and building scoreboard pressure.
Unfortunately, even the best-laid plans can unravel once they are being put into practice, and after a solid enough start (1-25) we slipped to 5-47, and definitely on the back foot.
But a small counter attack, and a solid contribution from Anthony Tedesco (33), gave us a little bit of hope, and with Liam Hutchison (16) and Jak Donnison (19*) working the end of the innings, we managed to post a sub-par, yet defendable 119.
And then came the carnage.
With full guns blazing, their opening batsman threw caution to wind, trying to make a significant dint in the total in as short a time as possible. Lucky to escape a strong LBW shout when still in single figures, he managed to put us well and truly to the sword, going on to pass our total himself.
Hywel Jones managed to open his wickets account for KPCC It too only until his 3rd over, when had the other opening batsman nicking one that angled across him nicely, and some sharp glove work by Parag behind the stumps doing the rest.
Once the game was dead and buried, Jesse Ravanello also managed picked up a couple of quick wickets.
Next week we head back into the Red Ball format, with a game against Altona North at home. Hoping to get the season up and running and get a W on the board.
SECOND XI MATCH REPORT
ROUND 2 – Vs Druids
With round one of the season being washed out round 2 was here. Beautiful day good looking pitch full team with a late inclusion of a old war horse the second eleven were ready too take it to Sunshine Druids.
We won toss and decided to have a bowl. For the first time with the the white rock ‘Pistol’ Pete McMahon found himself with a new opening partner to share the new rock with big Dyl Tainiton.
Both bowled fantasic good line and length with some great swing.
Pistol made the opening break with a in-swinger that took middle. Tight bowling from the other end from taints bought pistol to claim the next 4 with the saying “nothing but middle” coming from pistol each time he knocked over the stumps. The 2 openers finished off there spells with pistol claiming 4/7 off 8 and taints with a tidy 0/16 off 6.
Morgs spun circles around the middle order with the help of tight bowling from the other end from AB (beyonce). Morgs claiming 1/19 off 8 and AB getting 2/24 off his 7.
Tards and GB finishing it off at the end with Tards getting 2/8 off 6 and GB bowling in the death finishing of with 0/10 from his 2 overs.
Druids getting bowled out in the 37th over for 87. Special mention to new recruit Andy Carroll keeping for the first time in 10 years doing a very good job behind the stumps.
Chasing 87, KP openers Stan and Taints went out to tackle and start the run chase. Both boys battled through facing the swing of the white ball. Stany falling in the 5th over bought the warhorse Evo to the crease. Battling through getting his eye in taints fell early into the partner ship making 6 bring first-gamer kyzzzaa to the crease. Kye looked very solid and unfazed at the crease, while Evo went about his work nudging around 1s and hitting the bad balls to the boundary. Kyzza eventually fell for 4. Tards came in at 5 and created a partnership with the warhorse. The pair getting within 1 run for victory until Evo fell for 38. With some late hitting down order from GB making 16 and Tardz making 44 KP posted 8/132 and getting the W!! For a great way to start the season.
Well done to all the boys for there efforts in the field with the bat and ball.great way to start the season hoping to stay on this roll and give Altona North a run for there money next week!!!!!
